Children and young people can be confronted with drastic experiences. If this still causes discomfort after a few weeks, timely and short-term therapy can prevent worse.

The EMDR clinic is for children aged 1-18 with single trauma complaints after, for example, medical procedures, having seen something bad happen to others, having heard that something bad happened to a parent or caregiver, a serious traffic accident or having seen someone die (type 1 trauma). Anxiety after, for example, an attack by a dog or a severe shock reaction can also be a reason for care.

EMDR may be appropriate if complaints persist for more than a month after the event.

Treatment consists of a maximum of 5 sessions for child/adolescent and parents/carers with exploration of complaints, psycho-education, EMDR and parental guidance.

After referral (and approval from the municipality), contact can start within 4 weeks.

Trauma complaints due to relational violence, repeated violence, multiple trauma complaints and/or type 2 can be addressed within our other care provision. We can also treat trauma complaints in children and young people with ASD within our other provision. We want to be able to take more time for that than a few sessions.

The treatment sessions are at our location in Leeuwarden. In addition, there are online contacts for information gathering and feedback.

Our therapists are Health Care Psychologist BIG, Orthopedagogue-generalist BIG or in the final phase of their training. They are trained and registered with the Association EMDR Netherlands (VEN) .
